The Lost Prophecy, Prologue + Chapter 1

Hi guys! It's finally here: the lost prophecy again! This is gonna take forever for me to finish, because I have so many ideas but I gotta organize them! Also this is supposed to be a series, so yeah. But you guys can follow through with me. And At the end of each book I'll put a file with the whole thing so you can read it all. Ok let's go

Prologue

A black cat with star-like silver markings was running. Starlight sparkled around her paws, and on the tips of her whiskers. Sunlight dappled the leaves above her, and a warm breeze drifted through the starry forest.

In front of her stretched a clearing, and from it, a soft voice was calling to her.

"Nightflower!"

The she-cat, Nightflower, approached the clearing, slowing to a stop at the edge. Another she-cat sat on a rock in the center, beside a small, clear pond. Her flanks and back were silver, and the rest of her was black.

"What is it, Silverfur?"

"Have you seen Swanfeather lately?" Silverfur asked.

"She has forgotten to put her Clan first, once again. She mated a WindClan tom. Pinewind. She had his kits, nearly drowning them at birth to hide them from her Clan." Nightflower murmured.

"Dawnmist must be getting to her, yet again." Silverfur said.

Nightflower bristled. "Do not mention her to me!" She spat. "Dawnmist holds no worth to me anymore."

"I understand how grieved you are by your daughter's betrayals." Silverfur's tone softened. "I am too. But she has been influencing Swanfeather in ways that must not continue. Shall we take a look at Swanfeather now?"

Nightflower nodded, letting her fur lie flat and padding over towards the pond where Silverfur sat.

An image Silverfur. She leaned over to blow on the water, making it ripple with stars. The stars began to form an image in the pond.  A hollow. Fronds of lichen enclosed a space beneath a ledge. They swayed as a white she-cat padded out, limping ever so slightly, two claws very noticeably missing from a forepaw.

"Swanfeather," Nightflower breathed, as if the cat in the image could somehow hear her.

"Dawnmist was there."

"I believe Swanfeather is beginning to tread a dark path as well." Silverfur mewed gravely.

Nightflower sighed.

"Yes," she replied. "I believe it is so."

Chapter 1

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Highledge for a Clan meeting!"

Fernkit jolted awake as Bloomstar's call rang through the ThunderClan camp. She yawned and stretched, feeling the nursery come to life around her.

Sunstream, who had just moved in to the nursery that morning, rose to her paws, helping Rosethorn rangle her two kits, Leafkit and Specklekit. They were about to be made apprentices, Fernkit knew.

"I can catch prey!" Leafkit mewled, snatching Specklekit by his scruff and shaking him. Specklekit squeaked in protest, and Rosethorn snapped to attention.

"Leafkit, let go of your brother!" She scolded.

"Okay," Leafkit muttered, sounding a little disappointed as she let the smaller tom drop to the ground. Specklekit got up, shook himself, and headed for the entrance at a run.

"Hold up!" Sunstream was quick and agile, her belly still only very slightly rounded with the kits she was expecting. She raced across the nursery and quickly hopped in front of the kits, blocking their way.

"You will walk," she chided.

"Can we come?" Dustkit squeaked. His mother and Fernkit's foster mother, Mistbrook, blinked her amber eyes and sat up. She had apparently been napping too.

"You can watch from just outside the nursery, yes," she meowed.

"But that's not fair!" Dustkit whined. "We won't be able to hear anything!"

"Yeah!" Dustkit's sister, Crescentkit, added. "We want to be where the action is! Come on, Opalkit, tell her!"

Opalkit was the smallest of Mistbrook's kits. She had small amber eyes and tiny white paws.

Fernkit didn't care though, she just wanted to hear the ceremony.

Leafkit and Specklekit were walking out of the nursery, followed by Rosethorn, looking Rosethorn and Sunstream. Fernkit followed them.

"I've called you here today for one of the most important moments in the life of a Clan," Bloomstar meowed. "The making of new apprentices." At that point, she paused, sweeping her amber gaze across the clearing until it landed on Leafkit and Specklekit. "Leafkit, Specklekit, come forward." Leafkit and Specklekit both trotted to the center of the clearing, and Bloomstar bounded down the rocks to meet them.

"Leafkit, from this day day forward, you shall be known as Leafpaw. Shadeheart, you have shown yourself to be ready for your first apprentice. You will be mentor to Leafpaw."

The newly named Leafpaw hopped over to where Shadeheart waited, and they touched noses, while Bloomstar repeated the same ceremony for Specklekit, renaming him Specklepaw and assigning Swanfeather as his mentor.

The ThunderClan deputy looked surprised, and slightly dismayed, but she came over and touched toses with the new apprentice anyways.

What was that about? Fernkit wondered. If she were a warrior, she knew she'd always be excited to have an apprentice. And it didn't fit Swanfeather's usually calm, level-headed nature.

What was going on?

Ok,  that's it! Questions: what do you think? What do you think is happening with Swanfeather and Dawnmist? Chapter 2 will be out within the next month, I can guarantee that. I'm still getting used to throwing my writing out there, even though I know I'll thank myself later. See you all next time!!
