Problems with the Kid / Teen Podcasting Community, + some actually good pods to check out.

Hiii y'all! I do love a lot of podcasts, but I have to admit there's some things about them and the people behind them that really piss me off sometimes.

First things first is videos. If you know me anywhere online or IRL you've probably gotten this from me at least once. It's becoming increasingly harder to find kid podcasts that are not just videos and editing. Podcasts are meant to be audio and now there's a video podcasts feature and vid podcasts have become the NORM. Some of them don't even have audio at all! Like people used to at least have the decency to point out when something was a video podcast but now everyone just expects it to be, and sometimes people even complain when it's not.

One thing that is absolutely infuriating and is a recipe for me unfollowing a podcast that people are doing lately, is when people do just videos with an AI voice. I even saw one person do a like 2k plays special that was a voice reveal. That's not the point of podcasting! Like you should hear me typing right now I'm like banging on the keys I have so much energy to release!!!!!!!! Podcasts are supposed to be audio. Not videos and certainly not edits. Don't get me wrong I love roblox podcasts and vids of people playing it but I don't watch the video and I make sure there's adequate description. They are supposed to have people talking. Also some people I've heard use the argument video podcasts are good because they might not be allowed to get youtube. Well the problem with that is the mature adults probably don't really know about video podcasts and don't like youtube because people go and share their faces on it, well people do on Spotify as well now so it'd probably be disallowed as well if the parents knew. Which leads me too...

How illogical face reveals for a certain number of plays are.

Kids do specials for a certain numbers of plays where they share their face. Well the fact is Spotify is not just a kids platform, there are adults there too, and predators, and the fact that someone has like 10k plays or whatever means there will be more likely to be predators keeping an eye out. And if there are people (which there are I've seen people do that) pressuring the host to do a face rev, that's just concerning to me honestly.

And there are some people that post tiktok compilations and videos reposted from YouTube that are copyrighted, and not even theirs. That's a) probably illegal and b) going to get you banned from Spotify and c) not what starting your own podcast is for.

Like starting a podcast used to be a big awesome thing and now it's not anymore. :(

Now that I'm done with all my rants I'll move on.

This was a phase everyone had back in 2022, and although I silently supported it at the time, I didn't have Spotify then so I didn't see it in action. The #SaveThePodcasters was supposed to keep people from quitting. I know podcasts were turning into like a social media where people quit if they don't get enough likes or comments, and I don't like that either, but there are legitimate reasons people might want to leave the community. I know now that certain people were using this "movement" to spam comment on other people's podcasts saying like "Help! Stop this person from quitting!" and then guess what? Nothing even happened like if someone isn't allowed to podcast anymore or doesn't feel comfortable, then half-hearted spamming won't help. Of course some of my fave podcasts got deleted but like I have new fave podcasters and making a big deal about it doesn't help. Quick disclaimer: I don't think people should just make a two-second decision to give up because they're not motivated in the moment and/or they're not getting enough likes or comments or shoutouts or whatever is teen currency these days, I just don't think "Saving the podcasters" is the way to solve it.

I think I released all my energy now, so I'm going to spend the rest of this post recommending to you some podcasts that I really like.

Artify.

Artify hasn't posted in a while but I still enjoy it (quality over quantity, am I right?). On it, the host, Natalie, posts arts and crafts stuff, random talking, and a few roblox episodes (not all of them videos) even on video podcasts she is very descriptive, and makes everything fun.

Sammie Smiles Podcast. This one is a lot more mature but the host is a teen, I think, and she interviews people and it's very inspiring.

Cal's Corner. I've been a fan of her podcast for many years now (since 2021), and I still haven't gotten tired of her, she's so funny and has great stories. She does post quite a few videos, but mostly they're just talking but if you were actually watching the video you would be able to see her.

Keeping It Real with Mayim and Pearl

This one is only available on Spotify but it might just be the best one on there (even though I do love a lot of them) it's a lifestyle podcast where Mayim and Pearl (from the Braided Vine and Pearl Christine blogs respectively) give awesome tips. :)

These aren't the only podcasts I like, there are sooooooo many more! I'll definitely share them with you some other time, at the moment I have to go though. Sorry if this post sounded whiny at all, I tried not to let it. Happy new year's eve guyssssss, and until next time, this is Miss Gevious, signing off!
